Dewey L. (Diz) Dean passed away peacefully at 86 years old in his home of natural causes with his wife by his side on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Diz was born June 29, 1930, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Joseph Benjamin and Clara Hamner Dean. After graduating from Donna High School in 1948, he served in the U. S. Air Force until 1954. Following his service in the Air Force, Diz entered the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing in 1957. Upon graduation, Diz married the love of his life, Joyce Clare Smalley, on August 28, 1957, in Austin and moved to Waco, Texas, where he joined Central Texas Iron Works. He was with CTIW for 45 years and retired as Vice President of Sales in 2002. Diz’s greatest joy was the love of his family. He enjoyed boating with friends and family on Lake Waco. He travelled extensively and was an avid reader. He was an ardent follower of UT Football. Diz leaves behind many family and friends to cherish his memory including his wife of 58 years, Joyce Dean; his daughter, Deborah Dean Newman and her husband, John Weston Newman, of Corpus Christi, Texas; his son, Donald Joseph Dean and his wife, Carol Dean, of Austin, Texas; and six grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, and John Patrick Newman, and Curtis, Alex, and Sarah Dean. He is also survived by his beloved pet, Becky. Diz was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Joseph Dean and his brother, Donald and his wife, Julia, of Gulfport, Mississippi. The pallbearers will be his five grandsons and his son-in-law. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fuzzy Friends Rescue or the charity of your choice.
