Diamond Murphy March 28, 1928 – October 20, 2016 Diamond Murphy of Waco passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Diamond was born March 28, 1928, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Albert and Lila Haney. Her name of “Diamond,” which means rare and precious, could not have been more appropriate as all who knew her considered her to be a treasure. Humility, generosity, faithfulness, selflessness, kind and loving are words consistently used to describe her. She taught piano and voice and was a church pianist for many years. Diamond and Earl served in ministry in the local church, denominational work, and had a heart for ministries around the world, traveling extensively overseas. She is beloved by many who were touched by her music and her life. Diamond was preceded in death by her parents; and her two sisters, Blanche and Elsie. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Earl Lee Murphy; one sister, Evelyn Long of Georgia; one sister-in-law, Dr. Mary Ann Murphy of Lubbock, Texas; three sons, Michael and wife. Donna, of China Spring, Texas; Patrick and wife, Tanya, of Waco; and Timothy of Vilas, North Carolina. She was very proud of her eight grandchildren and her nine great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Maranatha Mission Team, Zalau Romania, and may be given through First Baptist Church, Woodway.
