Don Ed Smith September 16, 1929 - April 5, 2010 Don Ed Smith of Waco passed away Monday, April 5, 2010, at Hillcrest Hospital. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 9, at Oakwood Cemetery. Don Ed was born September 16, 1929, in Waco to Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Smith, Sr. He graduated from Waco High School Class of 1947 and joined the Marine Corps, where he served as a master sergeant during the Korean War in 1951 and 1952. He served in the Marshall Islands Atomic Bomb Test. After seven years in the Marines, he returned to Waco and entered the automobile business. He sold Oldsmobile and Cadillac automobiles for Gordon Rountree for many years. Don Ed was a life member of the VFW Post 6008. He loved all sports, but especially loved the Texas Longhorns. He was a member of the University of Texas Ex Students Assn. and participated in all their activities. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 40 years, Betty Jene Smith, who was a championship golfer in the Waco area. He is survived by two daughters, Sheila McClellan of Waco, and Susan Cantwell of Wemberly, TX. He was especially close to his caregivers, Darlene Moon and Jack Huggins. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Miller, Joe Flood, Bud Jarosek, Tim Riley, Jim Haller, Jack Huggins, Lanny Peavey and Wes Schreiber.
