Donald Lee Moore February 2, 1927 - February 5, 2007 Donald Don Lee Moore of Waco went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 5, 2007 at Scott and White Hospital. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery in the Chalk Bluff Community. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Don was born February 2, 1927 in Temple, TX to Ernest Roy and Louise Flint Moore, pioneer Bell County residents. He married his sweetheart, Joyce McGehee on September 8, 1950, and their marriage was blessed with one son, Steve Moore. Don went to public schools in Tennessee Valley now covered by the Belton Lake and Belton, and received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Hardin Simmons University. He did further graduate work at Baylor University. He was a school teacher in Vera ISD, Belton ISD, Brazosport ISD, El Paso ISD and La Vega ISD. His favorite job was as the High School Counselor at La Vega High School until 1975. He always encouraged his students to “climb higher.” He still kept up with “his kids”. Don served as a corporal in the United States Army in the occupation of Germany in 1945. One of his greatest experiences was attending the war crimes trials while stationed in Nurnberg, Germany. He had a long and valiant struggle with polio contracted in 1954 and worked with the March of Dimes. In the past few years, post-polio syndrome began to weaken his body again. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waco. Joyce had a stone engraved for their “pretty place” garden which states “This garden is dedicated to my sweetheart whose bravery, courage and perseverance gives me encouragement, hope and inspiration.” He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife; son, Steve Moore and wife, Ann of Waco; grandson, Kevin Moore and wife, Miranda of Houston; grandsons by marriage: James Teal and wife, Meagan of Hurst; and John Teal and wife, Tosha of Granbury ; his sister Mary Moore of Waco and three great grandchildren.
