Donald Lewis

October 2, 1934 — February 21, 2015

Donald Wayne Lewis October 2, 1934 February 21, 2015 Donald Wayne Lewis, 80, moved into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, February 21, 2015, after a bold and courageous battle with cancer. His life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Don was born in Waco to Lottie McLemore and Marvin E. Lewis on October 2, 1934. He attended Waco public schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1953. He was a lifelong resident of the Waco area, except for a short period of time when he lived in Killeen. Don devoted his career to the milk industry as an independent distributor and later as a sales representative. After forty-two years of service to Borden Dairy 1953-1995, Don retired; only to realize six months later that retirement didn't suit him. Later that year, he went back to work this time for Oak Farms Dairy where he would spend the next eighteen years before finally retiring in 2013. For many years during his career, Don served as director of the Heart of Texas Retail Grocers Association, where he unselfishly gave his time and service for the association's charitable causes. In 1985, Don met his wife-to-be, Cheryl Hamer. The two married in Las Vegas on August 8, 1988 or 08/08/88, an anniversary date Don surely would not forget. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home with Cheryl and two of his best friends, schnauzers* Fritz and Kyllie. An avid fan of the Baylor Bears, Don also enjoyed sharing his love of sports with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gwendolyn Hightower. He leaves behind his wife, Cheryl; stepson, Marty Williams of Austin; two daughters, Linda Logston and Donna Perry, both of Waco; two granddaughters, Avery Williams and Vanessa Perry; one great-granddaughter, Gracelynd Gardner. Don will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched. Pallbearers will be Steve Atwell, Robert Keeling, Jim Lewis, John Benson, Don Corbet and Danny Bowden.
