Doris Marie Harper June 22, 1930 - September 19, 2008 Doris Marie Harper of Waco passed away Friday, September 19, 2008. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation. Doris was born June 22, 1930 in Ft. Worth, to James Jim and Mattie Jean Harper. She attended Sul Ross Elementary, South Junior High and graduated from Waco High School in 1947. She graduated from Hillcrest Hospital School of Nursing as Salutatorian of her class; graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science Degree Cum Laude in Nursing in 1958; and from Texas Women's University with a Masters Degree in Nursing in 1979. She taught in Hillcrest Hospital School of Nursing; worked for Dr. Joe Rutherford, DDS; as office and surgical nurse; taught in Providence School of Nursing, as Activities Director/Recruiter; and retired from the Waco VA Medical Center after 35 years of service. She held the rank of Major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. She dearly loved her parents; her career in nursing and adored the students that she taught.
