Doris Shotwell Howell December 31, 1914 – March 7, 2007 Doris Shotwell Howell went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2007 at a private, senior care home in Dallas. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, March 8 at 11:30 A.M. at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with burial to follow. Doris was born on December 31, 1914 to her parents, J.E. and Bell Carter in Moody, Texas. She graduated from Bruceville-Eddy High School and was a resident of Waco and Corsicana before moving to Dallas in 1995. She married Pete L. Shotwell in 1933. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Her positive attitude, helpful spirit, and Christian love greatly influenced her family and friends. She made valuable contributions to the lives of many children as she worked along side of her husband, Pete, in his public school teaching and at Waco State Home and Corsicana State Home. She was an efficient homemaker; a wonderful seamstress and a great cook. Doris was a life-long Baptist and participated actively in the Eddy Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church in Waco, First Baptist Church in Corsicana, and Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas. Preceding her in death were her parents, her first husband, Pete Shotwell, her second husband, Gaston Howell, her sister and brother-in-law Mary Louise and Cullen Shotwell, and many other relatives and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Hill and husband, Doug; granddaughters: Shari Small and husband, Brian; Amy Chapman and husband, Matt; great-grandchildren Matthew, Allison and Jason Small, and Jake and Brooke Chapman. Surviving nieces and nephews include Bob Edd Shotwell and wife, Lane; Larry Shotwell and wife, Pat; Lou Johnston and husband, Eddie; Beth Bradley, Joanne Keerh, Robert Provine, and Wendell Shotwell. Pallbearers will be Matt Chapman, Brian Small, Wesley Shotwell, Carter Shotwell, Kirk Kriegel and Wes Walters. The family appreciates Susan and Jerry Wilkerson, Felicitas Mujikwa, and Hazel Scott, all members of the staff of Home Again as well as members of the staff of St. Michael’s hospice for the loving care provided for Doris in her final months.
