Dorothy Gene Smith O’Bier was born on December 19, 1926, to Nelson Clyde Smith and Eunice Opal Clary Smith in Waco, Texas. She met her husband Roy at the Weston Biscuit Bakery where they both worked, along with her father and big brother. They would go roller skating on dates. She was married to Roy Alfred O’Bier on December 19, 1949. They had two sons, David O’Bier and Ronnie O’Bier. Dorothy and Roy loved to fish. They spent a week at Port Aransas every summer. Dorothy worked for M & M Mars from 1976 to 1994, where she made many friends. Dorothy had resided at Regent Care Center in Waco for the last five years. She was a favorite with staff and residents due to her always joyful spirit. She even had a job. She would sit in the front lobby, she called it her living room, look out the big picture window and count cars and trucks driving by on Hwy 84. She had an official clip board and would count hundreds of vehicles each day. She had adopted a pet squirrel during the last year. She had a bird feeder and squirrel feeder outside her window. Friends and family kept them full most of the time. If her squirrel ever found them empty, he would jump up on her windowsill to complain. Dorothy asked her four great, great, great nieces to name the squirrel for her. They chose the name Dash, so they were Dot and Dash. Though her body continued to fail her, she kept her mind sharp. She was no longer able to walk or stand but could and did wheel herself around in her wheelchair. She had lots of photos of family and friends on a board across from her bed. Every morning she named the people in each photo, to keep her mind sharp. At night she prayed for each person. Dorothy lived a long life, always willing to help her family. Dorothy passed quietly in her sleep with family beside her after a brief illness. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Billie Smith, a brother who died as an infant, and her big brother, Nelson Clyde Smith Jr, her husband Roy O’Bier, and her youngest son, Ronnie O’Bier. Dorothy is survived by one son, David O’Bier of Waco, Texas, Four grandchildren, Jeffery O’Bier of Maryland, Christopher O’Bier, Cody O’Bier, and Crystal O’Bier both of Waco, Texas. She had five great grandchildren, Austin O’Bier and Savanah O’Bier of Maryland, and Dasia Ruiz, Emari Brandon, and Tyson Brandon of Waco, Texas. She also had numerous nephews, nieces, and multilevel great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many, many friends including former relatives by marriage.
