GORDON, HARRELL & DOROTHY Harrell Edwin Gordon and Dorothy Andrews Gordon died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at their farmhouse near Terrell, TX. Services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday, May 22nd at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Julie Pennington-Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 7:00-9:00 PM Monday, May 21st at the funeral home. Mr. Gordon was born November 24, 1920 in Throckmorton, TX. He graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1938. He left Throckmorton, attended Spartan Sheet Metal School in Maryland then returned to Dallas. He was employed at North American Aviation Plant in Dallas and joined the Army Air Corps in 1943. Mrs. Gordon was born April 8, 1925 in Ennis, TX. She graduated from Ennis High School in1942. She attended Droughon’s Business College in Dallas and worked at Sears and Roebuck. Harrell and Dorothy met when he opened a layaway account at Sears and asked her out on a date. They had a quick romance and were married September 17, 1943. They moved to Fort Bragg, NC. Harrell spent one year in Central Europe during WWII as a radar technician. After WWII, he attended watch and jewelry school in Missouri on a G.I. bill. They moved to Waco and started Gordon’s Jewelry on 25th St. Dorothy was employed as a secretary at Hill Printing and Stationary Co. while Harrell was getting the business started. She later joined him as salesperson and bookkeeper where their business continued for more than 40 years. They were longtime devoted members of Calvary Baptist Church where Harrell served as a deacon and Dorothy as a Sunday School teacher. They devoted much of their time helping deliver food to elderly folks that were not able to get around. In 1990, they reduced the number of days open from 6 to 3, eventually retiring in 1997. After retirement, Harrell spent most of his time at the Terrell farm but soon developed several health complications. Dorothy spent a lot of her time within the last year caring for Harrell at the farm. Surviving are two sons, Andrew Niles Gordon of Terrell, David Drew Gordon and his fiancée Tina Lamb Wells of Waco and grandson Bradley Scott Gordon. Harrell was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Niles and Julia J. Cole Gordon, brother, Clifford and Ruth Gordon and sister, Lois Gohl. His surviving relatives are sisters Ethelyene Sparkman, Mary Frances Brown and Virginia and Roland Offord all of Jacksonville, TX. Dorothy was preceded in death by parents, Earl R. Andrews and Nettie Cunnigham Andrews. Surviving relatives are brother, Garnett and Lola Andrews. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. WILIKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
