Dorothy Marie Hastings Gustafson March 30, 1918 May 6, 2014 Dorothy Marie Gustafson passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at First Lutheran Church, 1008 Jefferson, Waco, with Pastor Charles Holm-Roesler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Olaf Cemetery in Cranfills Gap, Texas. Visitation with the family will be 6:00 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, in the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Dorothy was born March 30, 1918, on a farm near Cranfills Gap, Texas. She married Julius E. Gustafson on October 10, 1937, in Cranfills Gap, by the late Rev. W.J. Maakestad. She was a homemaker and the mother of four children. Dorothy hand made many quilts through her lifetime giving them to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each of her grandchildren received a handmade quilt when they married. One of her quilts was sent to Africa for those in need and she made a quilt yearly to give to Friends of Life during the Christmas season. One of Dorothy's proudest achievements was completing her high school degree in May 1985, at the age of 67. Dorothy was a member of the Bellmead Rebekah's Lodge and held the office of Noble Grand. She also provided cakes for the auction held yearly at the coliseum raising money for the Rebekah's and spent many hours working the booth for this fundraiser. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Waco, Texas, for more than 70 years. She loved the Lord and is home with Him for eternity. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Julius; son, Ronnie L. Gustafson; daughter, Delphine Y. Dale Squyres; great grandson, Alexander M. Gustafson; sister, Rosie Lee Hastings Mears; and brothers, Wilburn N. Hastings and Homer P. Hastings. Dorothy is survived by her son, Wendell J. Gustafson and wife, Yolande; and daughter, Martha G. Hatcher and husband, Wayne; grandchildren, Randy and wife, Tori, Leo and wife, Katie, and Lynn Gustafson and wife, Michelle, Shawn Squyres and wife, Pam, and Michael Squyres and wife, Cindy, Jennifer Hatcher McColloch and husband, Steve, Eric Hatcher, and Chris Sproles and wife, Liesha. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Randy Gustafson, Leo Gustafson, Lynn Gustafson, Wayne Hatcher, Steve McColloch and Chris Sproles. Honorary pallbearer is Eric W. Hatcher. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Waco, Texas, or to Bellmead Rebekah's Lodge in Bellmead, Texas.
