She was raised and educated in Bartlett, Texas. Dorothy moved to Waco in 1944. Two years later she met Grover C. Parker and they were married in November, 1946. They were married 44 years until his death. At age 19, Dorothy began working as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was employed by Maw Bell for 33 years. She was there until the last lights went out on the board when the company closed down the operator section on 9th and Washington. She was a life time member of the A T & T Pioneers and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Dorothy was a kind, loving, caring and beautiful daughter, wife, mother and friend. She had a gentle spirit, was a blessing to all and will be greatly missed. Her husband always said she had a heart of gold. Her daughter is thankful for the 54 years she spent with her Mother what a wonderful life we shared. Dorothy enjoyed collecting music boxes and their lovely sounds filled their home. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Capt. Grover C. Parker. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Parker, cousins, and friends. Many thanks to those who gave of their time and to those who cared for my Mother during her illness. She is with the Lord now and at peace. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, American Heart Association, Cancer Association or the Diabetes Association.
