Dorothy Mansell passed away Monday, January 22, 2018. Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 25, at Oakwood Cemetery. A memorial service and visitation will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, with Rev. Lori Cotton officiating. Dorothy was born May 30, 1921, in Comanche County, near Proctor, Texas, to George W. Purvis, Sr., and Maggie Ewing Purvis. She attended school in Gustine and Comanche, Texas. She became a resident of Waco during the 1940s. While working at Beard and Stone, she met her future husband, Burney Fuller “B.F.” Mansell, Jr., and they were married July 19, 1947. They were happily married for 60 years until B.F.’s death August 20, 2007. B.F. and Dorothy were members of St. John’s Methodist Church, and later they were active members of Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed needlework, arts and crafts. She loved making candy and desserts. Dorothy and B.F. made beautiful ceramics, which they used at their Annual Christmas dinner. Guests were given a gift of their decorative Christmas ceramics, which they enjoy to this day. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Purvis Carey and Lena Purvis Wilson; her brothers, Charles Ewing Purvis, Sr., Rupert E. Purvis, Cecile Purvis and George W. Purvis, Jr., as well as her parents. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Billie Purvis, Martha Mansell Pior and husband, Bob, and Toni Mansell; several nieces and nephews; and extended family, Ginger Amelunke Green and Sharon “Sherry” Amelunke The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Arbor House of Waco, Interim Healthcare, Encompass Home Health, Rev. Lori Cotton, Glenda West and special caregiver, Joyce Purvis Sessler. Memorials may be made to Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
