BARRON, DOROTHY VELEK Dorothy Margaret Velek Barron, 77 of Waco died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, June 18 at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. Melvin Dornak as celebrant. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Rosary will be recited at 6pm Thursday, June 17 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with visitation to follow. Mrs. Barron was born July 27, 1926 in West, Texas to Frank Charlie and Elizabeth Soukup Velek. She attended and graduated from schools in West. She married Emmett Barron Jr. February 18, 1954. She worked as bookkeeper and store manager of Walk-Over Shoes in Waco until her retirement. Dorothy was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church for 23 years. She was the only woman to serve 21 years as Eucharistic Minister, beginning her ministry on September 1, 1981. As a member of St. Catherine’s Circle, she took Holy Communion to area nursing homes and shut-ins on a regular basis. Dorothy described herself as “a better follower than leader”, but by her example she led us to think about doing better. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include stepson, Ken Barron and wife, Joann of Spring; grandsons, Jimmy Reynolds, Ken Barron, Jr. and Kris Barron; sisters, Ruth Johnson and husband, Truett of Waco, Rosie Thrower of Houston; sister-in-law, Ann Allen and husband, Perry of California and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Willie Clayburn, Truett Johnson, James Blair, Tom Blair, John Dawson and Claude Hopkins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to charity of choice.
