Dorris Thurston August 16, 1929 - March 16, 2015 Dorris Garrett Thurston, age 85, of Albuquerque, NM and previously Houston, Texas, died Monday, March 16, 2015, in Albuquerque after a brief illness. Graveside services will be 12:00 noon, Tuesday, March 24, at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Dorris was born August 16, 1929, in Gholson, Texas, to her loving parents Jim and Allie Garrett. She married William R. Thurston on Valentine's Day, 1948 in Waco, Texas. After moving to Houston she worked at Allstate Insurance Company and retired as Secretary to the Regional Claims Manager. Dorris and Bill moved to Albuquerque in 1995 to be near their daughter and her family. She treasured her family and many friends throughout the years, and was proud beyond belief of her grandchildren and their bright futures. Dorris lost the love of her life, Bill, April 21, 1996. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Williams, and son-in-law, Floyd Williams, of Albuquerque; grandson, Drew Williams, his wife, Christine, and precious great-granddaughter, Paige; and granddaughter, Dana Williams, and her fianc, Shawn Brooks.
