Dorthy Bennett Hutto December 29, 1921 - August 29, 2013 Dorthy Bennett Hutto of Waco passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Dorthy was born December 29, 1921, in West, Texas, to Clyde and Esther Bennett. She worked at Baylor for over 30 years and was affectionately known as "The Bear Lady", having collected more than 600 bears. She also organized the Baylor Rodeo Club. Dorthy was a longtime active member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Meredith Hutto; and sister, Frances Bennett Hanks. She is survived by her niece, Patricia Turner; nephew, Rex Padgett and wife, Gina; great nieces, Melinda Hedrick, Lorie Macon and Rachel Stark; great nephew, Neal Padgett; and several great-great nieces, nephews and other extended family. Pallbearers are E. E. Dutch Schroeder, Jim Hardwick, Don Castello, Brent Hedrick, Neal Padgett, John Marco Westmoreland and Clay Stark. Memorials may be made to Columbus Avenue Building Fund or New Horizon Children's Home, P.O. Box 549, Goldthwaite, TX 76844.
