Douglas Ayres Pitts January 2, 1924 August 17, 2011 Douglas Ayres Pitts, 87, died peacefully in his home Wednesday, August 17, 2011, after a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 22, at First Presbyterian Church of Waco. A private burial will follow. He was born January 2, 1924, in Bardstown, Kentucky, to Dr. Donald H. Pitts and Lois Ayres Pitts. He served in the 102nd Infantry of the U.S. Army during WWII, where he fought in the Battle of The Bulge. After the war he graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a business degree in finance. He worked for Merrill Lynch for 34 years with 25 of those years as Vice President and Manager of the Waco branch office. Since 1951, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Waco, serving as a Deacon and Elder. He looked forward to his weekly gin rummy games and supper club with his dear friends of 50+ years. Doug enjoyed all things outdoors and was an avid golfer, tennis player, hunter and fly fisherman. Doug enjoyed travel and being with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jean Gunn Pitts; his parents; and his sister, Sally Pitts Hammonds. He is survived by his two daughters, Kathryn Pitts Green of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, and Jeannie Pitts Mayo of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Elaine Green of Columbia, South Carolina, Doug Green and wife, Cindy Tupy, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, David Green of Austin, Neel Mayo and wife, Brandi, of New Braunfels, Texas, and Nick Mayo of New York, New York; five great-grandchildren, Lilly, Charlie, and Tessa Green, and Piper and Will Mayo; his special friend and fishing buddy, Joan Baker of Austin; and a host of friends.
