Douglas Cleo Brown August 29, 1943 - September 11, 2009 Douglas Cleo Brown of Waco passed away Friday, September 11, 2009 at Scott and White Hospital from acute leukemia. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Andrew Werley officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2009 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Douglas was born August 29, 1943 in Waco, Texas to Cleo and Minnie B Brown. He graduated from Midway High in 1960 and graduated from Baylor University in 1965 with a B.B.A. degree. He married Patricia Lee Wollitz in 1963. In 1968 he partnered with his father in C.M. Brown Produce Company. In 1984 he formed and owned Brown Properties. From 1987 to 1994 he was appointed by Governor Bill Clements to serve on the Texas Produce Recovery Fund Board. Throughout his life he served the Waco community in a number of ways including serving in the leadership of the Waco JAYCEES, Keep Waco Beautiful, Downtown Waco Inc., Campfire Girls, Business Resource Center, East Waco Development Corporation, the Public Improvement District, Waco and Robinson Chambers of Commerce, and Brazos River Corridor Advisory Board. At his death he served on the Board of Directors of the Rapoport Academy, and the Boys and Girls Club of Waco, and was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club. His priority was his passionate involvement in the lives of his grandchildren, Madeline and Aidan Turner and Samantha and Cole Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo Mark and Minnie B. Brown, and daughter, Jennifer Lynn Brown. He is survived by his children, Cathy Turner and husband, Ted of Carrollton, TX, Sam Brown and wife Nicki of Waco, and his four grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Barry and husband Don of Stockton, California and Brenda Sullins and husband Don of Olathe, Kansas and brother, Chester Brown of Tallahassee, Florida and six nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Van Tusa, Jim Bush, Dick Kettler, Jack Compton, JW Cuzzort, Hank Fielder, Hunter Hoffman and Don Jackson. Memorials may be made to Rapoport Academy or the Boys and Girls Club of Waco.
