Douthit Dean Baxley

May 12, 1937 — February 15, 2022

The Lord of all Creation was so immensely kind and merciful to Bax and family during this hard but tender time freeing him from the rage of pancreatic and liver cancer while at his home he loved, taking him home to heaven at 12:16 a.m. Tuesday morning. God was kind to leave him with us for his 67th anniversary on Saturday the 12th and through Valentine’s Day with his lifetime sweetheart. Services will be held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home on February 28 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Wayne Williams and Douthit’s son Brent Baxley officiating. Burial will follow at Robinson Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, February 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. Douthit was born on May 12, 1937, in Downsville, Texas. He grew up in Waco and graduated from University High School. He studied at Baylor University and earned a master’s degree in accounting and math, finishing at the top of his class, cum laude! He married the love of his life, Barbara Frey in 1955. His lifetime career was at Hercules, now Space X, as head controller over accounting; he also worked as a CPA. Oh, how he loved the outdoors. A master fisherman who won bass tournaments across Texas. He loved sports and played many, including his tennis matches and golf games. He loved Jesus, and was involved with the local church during his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Frances Baxley; and his brother Tom Baxley. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Baxley; his daughters, Dawn Baxley and Melissa Dutton; son, Brent Baxley and wife, Holly; grandchildren, Arron Spears, Ami Spears, Anthony Baxley, and Arianna Baxley; and great-grandson, Arron Spears Jr. Pallbearers will be Brent Baxley, Arron Spears, Arron Spears, Jr., Anthony Baxley, Steve Williams, and Jimmy Williams. Now Bax is captivated by the beauty and glory of Jesus, the body he now has is whole, restored and ultimately healed, forever. We are so thankful for him. Bax is more alive now, than ever before. Donations may be made to the ASPCA in honor of Bax’s love of dogs and cats. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Interim Hospice, for the care they provided. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
