THOMPSON, DR. E. BRUCE Dr. E. Bruce Thompson, age 94, of Waco died Thursday, November 13, 2003 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 1pm Saturday, November 15 at Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. John Shepherd officiating. Dr. Thompson was born April 29, 1909 in Laurens, South Carolina. He graduated from Laurens High School, received a B.A. Degree in 1930 from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, a M.A. Degree from Vanderbilt University in 1935, and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1940. He married Marguerite Wallace August 25, 1935. He moved to Waco in January of 1946. He was professor at Maryland State Teacher’s College. He was chairman of the department of history at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. He taught at Baylor University for 30 years, serving as chairman of department of history for 10 years. He was listed in Who’s Who of America and has authored and co-authored several books and publications. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife April 12, 1999. Survivors include daughter, Barbara Bruce Myman of Point Reyes, California, sons, Kenneth Lloyd Thompson of Cambridge, England and Robert Wallace Thompson of New Orleans, Louisiana, four grandchildren and longtime dear friends, Dr. Rufus Spain and Dr. John Shepherd.
