Dr. Hendley Austere McDonald, 92, of Waco passed away Monday, February 20, 2017. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery, Hillsboro, Texas. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Hendley was born February 12, 1925, in Hillsboro, Texas, to Dr. John F. McDonald and Helen Leonese Tomlinson McDonald. He grew up in Hillsboro and attended Hillsboro schools, Texas A&M University, Baylor University, and earned his medical degree from Baylor School of Medicine in 1947. He completed his internship at Jefferson Davis Hospital, Houston, in 1948. From 1949-1954, he served as an active duty medical officer in the United States Army Air Force, including a tour of duty in Morocco, North Africa. He also served as a medical officer in the US Air Force Reserve from 1954 until his retirement in 1985, as a Lt. Colonel. From 1955-1960, Hendley practiced family medicine in Hillsboro. In 1960, while completing a Residency in Anesthesiology at Parkland Hospital, Dallas, he met his wife, Dr. Hemprova G. McDonald. They were married June 11, 1960, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Dallas. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the VA Hospital, McKinney, Texas, 1964-1965. In 1965, he and his wife moved to Waco, where he joined the medical group Schwartze, Anderson & Associates, which later became South Waco Clinic, PA. He practiced internal medicine with this group until his retirement in 2002. Hendley was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Waco. Hendley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Hemprova; a brother, Judge Frank G. McDonald of Waco; and a sister-in-law, Louise McDonald of Waco. He is survived by a niece, Luann McDonald Thiele and her husband, Dalbert, of Aquilla; a grand-niece, Lindsey Thiele of Waco; and from his wife’s family, numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his longtime extended family/caregivers, Helen Green, Mary Cooper, and Bernard Machovsky, and the staff at St. Catherine Center for their care and concern for Dr. McDonald.
