Dr. J. Douglas Guthrie

J. Douglas Guthrie, Jr. December 24, 1928 - December 7, 2013 J. Douglas Guthrie, Jr., of Waco passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 13, at Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Nathaniel Jung-Chul Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with Father John Wells officiating. Douglas was born December 24, 1928, in Waco, Texas, to Jewell and Dorris Guthrie, Sr. He was a podiatrist, unretired, practicing for over 60 years. Douglas was a long time and active member of Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Waco. He was a Rotarian, a historian, a member of the Civil War Round Table and the Historic Waco Foundation. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bettye Kyle Guthrie; mother-in-law, Halla Mae Lipsitz, and his brother, Jim Guthrie. He is survived by his son, J. Douglas Guthrie III; daughter, Kyle Guthrie Thomas; grandchildren, J. Douglas Guthrie IV and Emily Thomas; great grandson, J. Douglas Guthrie V; sisters, Lynn Keith and Lucy Walters; and brothers, Joe Guthrie and J. M. Guthrie. Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit or Historic Waco Foundation.
