DR. L.V. McNAMEE Dr. L.V. McNamee passed away on December 6, 2002 in The Woodlands, Texas at the age of 86. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 10 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Bosque Chapel with Dr. Glenn O. Hilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, December 9 at the funeral home. Dr. McNamee was born August 16, 1916, in Greenville, Texas. He received a B.A. Degree from Baylor University in 1938. In the same year, he married Marguerite Concilio in Waco on August 28th. He was a high school principal in Vanderbilt,Texas from 1940-1943, after which he entered the Army during World War II. He served at Fort Sam Houston in Texas, as well as Fort Lee in Virginia. Following release from the Army, he was a junior high school principal in Liberty, Texas from 1946-1950. He earned a masters degree in education from The University of Houston in 1949.In 1950, he became an elementary school principal in LaMarque, Texas, where helater became assistant superintendent of schools. In 1958, he earned a Ph.D., from The University of Houston, with his research dealing with education of gifted children. From 1959-1964, he was assistant superintendent of the Waco Independent School District. After one year as a professor at Texas A&M University, he returned to Waco as a professor in the School of Education at Baylor University, where he was later named Dean. He remained in that capacity until his retirement in 1981. He remained active in teaching and tutoring for a number of years and resided in the Baylor faculty housing area until 2001. Dr. McNamee was a member of the Waco Rotary Club, Phi Delta Kappa, and the Texas Association for the Improvement of Reading. He was a founding member of Highlands Baptist Church in LaMarque, and was a long-time member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco. In addition to his degrees, he also pursued advanced studies at Columbia University, the University of Southern California, Colorado University, and other institutions during summer breaks in the school terms. Throughout his long career he demonstrated dedication and love for school, student, family and nation. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marguerite Concilio McNamee of The Woodlands; daughter, Barbara Tomaja and husband David of The Woodlands; son, Gary McNamee and wife Noel of Lake Jackson, Texas; granddaughters, Amanda McNamee of Waco and Rachel McNamee of Lake Jackson; grandsons, Douglas McNamee of Waco and John Konopnicki of Waco; and sister, Alma Rohm of Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.V. McNamee, Sr. and Pauline Roberts, and by a sister, Kathlyn Maxwell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to The American Cancer Society or charitable organizations associated with M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
