O. H. Browning July 16, 1924 - June 26, 2013 Dr. Oscar H. "Brownie" Browning, 88, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home with Minister Scott Talley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Brownie was born July 16, 1924 in Tolar, Texas. He was the youngest in a family with three sisters and a brother, born to Caleb James and Lola Pearl Voliva Browning. Upon graduation from high school at 16, he moved to Ft. Worth, lived in a boarding house and walked to his job at Sears. After earning enough money to begin college, he enrolled at Tarleton State in Stephenville and then transferred to Texas A&M. During WWII he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to a Marine unit in the Pacific. He was in Japan as part of the occupation forces after the surrender. After returning to the states he re-enrolled at Texas A&M. It was during this time he met and married the love of his life, Sara Sue Tippett. Upon graduation with a doctorate in veterinary medicine, Brownie and Sue moved to North Dakota where he worked for the U.S. Government for a year. After returning to Texas, they settled in Waco and he began his veterinary practice. In addition to practicing veterinary medicine, he participated in several real estate developments including Brazos Shores, The Bluffs, First Edition and Bent Tree condos. In his younger days he enjoyed water skiing, tennis and golf. He was particularly fond of his friends in the Monday afternoon gin club. After retirement he and Sue enjoyed travelling, including trips to China and Europe. He was a member of Crestview Church of Christ and was a proud Texas Aggie. He was a great dad, a wonderful grandfather and he spent countless hours attending their extracurricular activities. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings and an infant daughter, Susan. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue; daughter, Melinda Henson and husband, Ray; son, Steve Browning and wife, Jann; grandchildren, Keri Henson, Kyle Henson, Sarah Browning Lopez and husband, Gabe, Ryan Browning and wife, Holly; and great grandson, Chance.
