Dr. Saul B. Chernoff October 25, 1919 - October 10, 2012 Dr. Saul Bernard Chernoff, 92, of Waco passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 12, at Rodef Shalom Cemetery with the Rabbi Gordon Fuller officiating. Dr. Chernoff was born October 25, 1919, in Brooklyn, New York, to Morris and Bessie Chernoff. He attended Cornell University and completed pre-optometry education at St. Johns University. In 1943, he graduated vice president of his class, and he received the Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. After practicing optometry in Tennessee for many years, he moved to Waco in 1961 to join in optometric practice with his two brothers, Dr. William Chernoff and Dr. Samuel Chernoff. He opened the Texas State Optical office in Lake Air Mall in 1961 and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Texas Association of Optometrists, a member of Congregation Agudath Jacob, a 3rd Degree Mason, a member of B'nai Brith, and served on the board of the Jewish Federation of Waco. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Robinson Chernoff; and three brothers, Samuel J. Chernoff, William J. Chernoff and Arthur Chernoff. He is survived by two sons, Samuel Mark Chernoff and Phillip Herbert Chernoff; and one grandson, Mark Thomas Chernoff.
