MORRISON, DR. BERGEN Dr. Sydney Bergen Morrison, age 78 of Waco passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at his residence. Services will be held at 3:30pm Friday, May 21 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. David Shuttleworth officiating. The Rev. James Wray will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Thursday, May 20 at the funeral home. Dr. Morrison was born November 8, 1925 in Mexia to Lynn and Flossye Morrison. All of his public schooling was completed in Arp, Texas in 1943. Dr. Morrison graduated from Baylor University in 1946. He earned his medical degree from Baylor Medical School in 1949. He married Beverly Wray June 4, 1949. He served his internship in Houston. He served in the Korean War as an Air Force Flight Surgeon. He did psychiatric residency training in Little Rock and Houston and was an instructor of psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine for 1 ½ years. He started practicing medicine in Waco in 1957. Dr. Morrison was a faithful member of Frank Wilson Sunday School Class of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church since 1957. He was Chief Medical Director at DePaul Hospital from 1986-1996. Dr. Morrison was in the private practice of psychiatry in Waco from January 1957 until April 30, 1996. Dr. Morrison was a longtime member, past president and board member of Waco Skeet and Trap Club. He participated in numerous tournaments and events. From 1960 to present, Dr. Morrison was a donor member of the Estes Park, Colorado YMCA of the Rockies. He was a past member of MHMR Board and member of Ridgewood Country Club. He had a courageous seven year battle with Multiple Myeloma. God gave us three miracles to allow us more time together. He was greatly loved by all and will be missed. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Wray Morrison of Waco; daughters, Elaine Sauber and husband, Philip of Beaumont and Catherine Sawyer of Waco; son, Kyle Morrison and wife, Jane Ann of Tyler; grandchildren, John Morrison and wife, Ashley of Marshall, Texas, Matthew Morrison, student at Baylor University, and Hannah and Nickolas Sauber of Beaumont; and brother-in-law, Rev. James Wray of Beaumont. Pallbearers will be John Morrison, Matthew Morrison, Dr. Harry Slade, Philip Sauber, Carl Sullivan, and Paul Murray. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Dudley, Joe B. Allen, Dr. Ken Reidland, Dr. Dewey Railsback, John Goble, Dr. Robert Anderson, Dr. Kendal Ethridge, members of the nursing staff and administrator’s staff of Texas Oncology, and members of McLennan County Medical Society.
