Dr. William Ivan Newman

WILLIAM IVAN NEWMAN Dr. William Ivan Newman, 68, of Waco, died at his residence Wednesday November 21, 2001. Services will be 9:30am Saturday November 24th at WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd with Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Graveside services will be 2:00pm Monday November 26th at Anchorage Cemetery in Poteet, Texas. A visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Friday at the funeral home. Dr. Newman was born October 21, 1933 in Rossville, Texas to Jasper Ali and May Brown Newman. His family were descendants of Stephen F. Austin’s Old Three Hundred. He was a graduate of Poteet High School, Class of 1952. Graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science, Class of 1955 and Baylor College of Dentistry with a Doctorate of Dental Science, Class of 1959 and Master of Science in Orthodontics, Class of 1966. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1962 in Roswell N.M. and briefly practiced general dentistry there also. He returned to Waco in 1966 where he practiced Orthodontics for 32 years. Dr. Newman practiced Orthodontics in Waco for over 32 years. He was a longtime member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Waco. He had served on many boards and committees in the Waco community. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Dr. Newman will be dearly missed by a host of friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Louise Newman. Survivors: His loving wife of 45 years; Mary Burns Thomas Newman of Waco Daughters: daughter Pamela Newman-Austin, her husband Paul Wesley Austin and his children Brandon Kyle Austin, Adam Barrett Austin and Erin Elizabeth Austin all of Waco daughter Nancy Newman Belknap, her husband Shannon Belknap and their children, grandsons Austin Newman Belknap and Michael Thomas Belknap all of Friendswood, Texas. Honorary Pallbearers: Larry Bennett, John Dagley, Dr. Albert Mikulencak, Dr. Edward Taylor, Dr. Michael Collins, Paul Austin, Shannon Belknap, Lou Montgomery Memorials: In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Baylor University – School of Dentistry or Athletic Scholarships and the American Heart Association.
