Dudley Light, of Waco, passed away Friday, June 17, 2005 at a Temple hospital. A remembrance service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19 in the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. He was born February 11, 1921 in Allen County, Indiana, and reared and educated in Muskegon, Michigan. He attended the University of Houston, majoring in geology and chemistry, and specialized in these fields for many years. He joined the newly formed Army Air Corps as a cadet and served as First Lieutenant in the 155th AACS Squadron. He became a commissioned officer in 1942, serving until 1946. He was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and three flying medals while serving in the South Pacific. He also served six months in the South Atlantic Wing, was an instructor at Ellington Field, Texas, and was a one-year liaison officer to the Joint Brazilian American Military Commission. He met and married his wife, Pat, formerly of Waco, in Omaha, Nebraska. They returned to Waco in 1985 as owners of Wood Preservation and The Black Tie. He was preceded in death by his father William Light, and his mother and stepfather, Janet and Waldo Ade. He is survived by his wife Pat, of Waco; daughter Sherrill Johnson and husband, Bill, of College Station; granddaughters, Jennifer Urbina, Kitri Urbina, and Lindsey Johnson, and grandson, Will Johnson; five great-grandsons; and sister, Betty Ade, of Michigan.
