KING, EDITH CECELIA Mrs. W. Bertram King Edith, age 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 12, 2002 in Waco, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11am Wednesday, November 20 at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Petersburg, Florida with Rev. David McLaurin officiating. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd., Waco, Texas 76710. Mrs. King was born Edith Cecelia Nielsen to Thorvald and Emma Nielsen, Danish immigrants who came to the United States in 1910. She met and married Dr. W. Bertram King in 1930. Their first pastoral service was in a small church in Clay City, Indiana. Later, they served at Fountain Memorial Church in Washington D.C. and Moreland Ave. Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. She worked as executive secretary for the Home Mission Board in Atlanta for 11 years. Later, they served as Executive Director and Liaison for the Southern Baptist to Canada for 10 years. It was at this time they befriended a young man who responded to their challenge and advice. He referred to them as mom and dad. This young man is now the executive director of the California Southern Baptist Convention. They concluded their lifework ministering to the “snow birds” at the 5th Ave. Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. On the morning of November 12, 2002 she rejoined her life partner and her Lord. Survivors include sons, Bertram E. King and wife, Joanne of Waco, Texas, Norman Nielsen King of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dr. Dennis Lee King of Boston, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; niece, Caroline Sedberry of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and nephew, Roger Nielsen of Mansfield, Texas.
