EDWARD L. SIMS, USAF MSgt.Ret. Edward L. Sims, age 73 of Waco, died Friday, November 22, 2002 at a Temple hospital. Services will be held 1:30 pm Wednesday, November 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd., with Chaplain Curtis Holland officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Riesel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, November 26, at the funeral home. Mr. Sims was born September 7, 1929 in Riesel to Charles Edward and Ora Mae Sims. He graduated from Riesel High School and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948. Edward met and married Jeanette Landry in 1949. Mr. Sims served in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He first served as NCOIC over radio and radar, which later became known as flight simulator. He was then Master Sergeant, serving 26 years in the military before retiring in 1973. He worked for the Environmental Protection Agency in Nevada for two years, before he was hired by the U.S. Postal Service, where he transferred to Waco in 1975, delivering mail for 12 years. Edward loved to ranch. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jeanette Sims of Waco; daughter, Gayla Lind Thompson of Donie, Texas; sons, Edward Louis Sims, Jr. of St. Cloud, Florida and Cody Wayne Sims of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters, Hazel Hitt of Fort Worth and Sandra Kay Manley of Riesel; brother, Joe Ed Sims of Mary Ester, Florida; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Edward Sims, Jr., Cody Wayne Sims, Jason Thompson and Nathan Bunting will serve as honorary pallbearers.
