Edward Lent Hardeman December 24, 1926 - September 22, 2014 Edward Lent Hardeman of Waco passed away Monday, September 22, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. His memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 25, at Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit with the Father Jason Ingalls officiating. Visitation will be 5:30-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, at 2725 Mountainview Dr. Lent was born December 24, 1926, in El Paso, Texas, to Ward and Dora Hardeman and spent his childhood in Junction, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1948. He spent the majority of his long career as a civil engineer with the Texas Highway Department. He designed and built many of the bridges in this area, including the twin Lake Waco bridges. He served in the United States Navy on active duty and retired from the reserves. He attained the rank of commander. He was an avid sportsman excelling at golf, tennis, and handball. He was the consummate engineer, and he loved designing and building his entire life. Lent treasured his wife, Carole, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved music and dancing, especially jazz. He had a quick wit, and he loved to laugh. He had many devoted friends on and off the golf course. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom and Bob Hardeman; and one sister, Ann Walter. Lent is survived by his wife, Carole Hardeman of Waco; daughter, Teresa Hardeman Martin and husband John; daughter, Elizabeth Hardeman Beach and husband, Andy; and son, Lent Allen Hardeman and wife, Desiree; grandchildren: Elizabeth Martin Pickard and husband, Dean, Rebekah Martin Van Someren and husband, Ben, Rachel and Justin Martin, and Caroline and Thomas Beach; and one great-grandchild, Cooper Van Someren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Altar Guild of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit or Meals on Wheels.
