SMITH, EDWARD ED Edward Ed Smith, age 79, of Waco died Friday, April 6, 2001 at a local hospital. Services will be 1:30 PM Monday, April 9, 2001 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Visitation with the family will be 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, April 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born April 23, 1921 in Olney, Texas. He served as a Navigator with the 423rd Army Air Force with the rank of Technical Sergeant & was discharged the 22nd October, 1945. Married Ruth Inez Hammond in Walla Walla, Washington in 1943. She died Feb.! 4, 1981. He married Dorothy Ware on Feb. 20, 1982, in Waco. He served as President and/or Treasurer of the Brazos Electric Power Cooperative Credit Union for several years and as President of the Central Texas Credit Union Association. He served as President of the Waco Senior Baseball League in 1963. He coached Little League, Junior League and Senior League baseball for 12 years from 1954 – 1966. He was a faithful member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church. While attending Weatherford Junior College, he took a position with Brazos Electric Power Cooperative where he worked for 39 years, retiring in 1986, as the Director of Safety. He enjoyed his family, his friends, his church and his traveling especially with his close friends, Jim and Marie Wall. Survivors include: His wife: Dorothy Smith of Waco Sons: Ronald Edward Smith of Waco James Allan Smith and his wife, Susan of Robinson Phillip Rex Smith and his wife, Colleen of Dallas Stepson: Jackie Bruton and his wife, Linda of St. Jo, TX Sisters: Jewell Heard of Seymoor Velma Pounds of Brenham Brother: Don Smith of Cleburne Nine grandchildren Six great grandchildren Pallbearers will be Jim Wall, Clarence Carpenter, Marvin Stivener, Billy Wayne Sanders, Tom Yows, and Sonny Elza. Memorials may be made to Beacon Hill Baptist Church Building Fund. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
