Edwin Ed Hahn

June 4, 1920 — February 14, 2005

HAHN, EDWIN Edwin A. Hahn, 84 of Waco, died as he lived his life with quiet dignity, at home surrounded by his loved ones Monday, February 14, 2005. Services will be held at 3:30pm Thursday, February 17 at First Lutheran Church, 1008 Jefferson Ave. with the Rev. Dan Brandt officiating, assisted by Chaplains Patricia Wilgis-Patton and Richard Rust. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Wednesday, February 16 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mr. Hahn was born June 4, 1920 to Mary Frieudenberg Hahn and Arthur R. Hahn in Falls County. He attended Falls County public schools. He worked throughout his youth on the family truck farm and this cultivated his love of working with the earth and growing fruits, vegetables and flowers. He was baptized September 26, 1920 at St. Paul’s Church of Marlin and his confirmation was March 25, 1934 at Grace Lutheran Church of Marlin. He joined the U.S. Army in March 1942 and was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. It was there he met the love of his life, Melva, who was also stationed at Fort Bliss. They were married on April 28, 1945 at Ft. Bliss. They were going to celebrate their 60th anniversary in the spring. After leaving the Army, Eddie enrolled at 4C Business College, where he excelled as in everything, in accounting, graduating in 1946. He was employed by Service Mutual Insurance Co. from 1947-1959. In 1960 he joined Texas Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co. where he spent the rest of his professional career initially as chief accountant and then later as director of investments at Farm Bureau. He was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, Waco since September 1946. He held virtually every office on the church council and was chairman of the Endowment Committee at the time of his death. He and Melva were Sunday School teachers and Luther League sponsors to scores of today’s leaders in the church. After his retirement he stayed perpetually busy, always doing something for someone else. He always was looking after “his girls”. He took the greatest delight in working on something for Debbie whether it was in the yard, her house or looking after her kitties. Up until shortly before his final illness he continued to chauffer Melva and Debbie around anywhere they might need to go. He was a member of TFB Retirees, Waco Chapter of Trigeminal Neuralgia Association; and National Accountants Association. Eddie was described as the perfect gentleman who always put everyone else first. He loved his family, his kitties, and his flowers. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert. Survivors include wife Melva; daughter Deborah; special nephew Johnnie Hahn and wife Carolyn of Temple, sons Chase, Jordan, and Keaton; niece Diane Huggard and husband John, their daughter Samantha of Roanoke; nephew Billy R. Hahn of Waco; as well as several distant cousins and innumerable friends. Pallbearers will be Robert Schuetze, Donald Pierson, Dean Hodde, Aubrey Richards, Bobby Fanning, and James Black. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Braun, Bob Lemley, H.E. Peterson, P.J. Peterson, and F.E. Murrell. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Community Hospice, 3215 Pine, Waco, TX or Fuzzy Friends Animals Rescue.
