Elaine Tannenbaum Mays December 7, 1935 – October 29, 2007 Surrounded by her family, Elaine Tannenbaum Mays, age 71, passed away October 29, 2007 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee after battling breast cancer for eleven years. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Troy, Texas with Col. Steven W. Long, USAF Ret and the Reverend Bill Simpson officiating. A catered luncheon and fellowship for family and friends will follow the service. Interment at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas will be at 1:00 p.m. Born December 7, 1935, in Laredo, Texas, Elaine was the younger of two daughters born to Robin and Fern Tannenbaum. She graduated from Laredo Martin High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin. After college, Elaine taught elementary school at United Day School in Laredo, and during this time, met her future husband, Kenneth, a pilot based at Laredo AFB. Elaine and Kenneth were married July 5, 1958, and together, they began a wonderful journey that would last the next 49 years. Her 24 year career as a military wife took her from coast to coast here in the United States, overseas to Italy and finally back to the ranch in Spring Valley. And no matter the location or the duration, Elaine was always able to make the family’s home a warm and special place. Her beautiful decorating style and attention to detail were never more evident than when she would transform the house with the incredible holiday decorations she had collected from around the world. A loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, she was completely devoted to her family and friends. She was always ready with a kind word, a smile and a helping hand. Elaine loved traveling, antique collecting, quilting and particularly cooking. A wonderful cook and hostess, her time in the kitchen brought her some of her greatest joys. Her meals always brought a crowd to the table. And she was just as comfortable cooking a simple home-style dinner for the family as she was preparing a delectable gourmet menu for a huge crowd. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Leah Mauck. Those left behind to cherish her memory and celebrate her life include, her husband Kenneth, of Moody, a son Weston and wife Becca of Nashville, Tennessee, a daughter Robin and husband Jeffrey Hallett of Georgetown, Texas and the light of her life, her nine month old granddaughter, Rachel Elaine Hallett. Elaine will also be missed by a host of relatives and many, many very dear friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Rob Mauck, Rick Mauck, John Williams, Kendall Williams, Walter Jones, John Garber, Joshua Garber and Brian Cartwright.
