Newton, Elen Elen Louise Jones Newton, passed away on June 6, 2005. Memorial Services will be Friday, June 10 at 11:00 AM at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 305 N. 30th, Waco. Graveside services will be at 1:30 PM at Mooreville Cemetery. Elen was born in Mooreville and was educated there and in Waco, graduating from Waco High School in 1935 and from Baylor University in 1939. She was the former president of the Athenean Club, now known as Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was an active member of the Waco Literary Club, Coterie Club, St. Catherine’s Guild and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe D. Newton, Sr., parents, Henry Sam and Louise Thalmann Jones and a brother, Herman Sam Jones. She is survived by sons, H. Duncan Gilpin, and wife, Rachel and their children, Shannon and Jenna, Hurley J. Gilpin and wife, Angela all of Colorado Springs, CO. and Joe D. Newton, II and wife, Kai of Waco and their children, Emily and Sam Ashley of Waco. Honorary pallbearers are to be her friends.
