Elizabeth Tarver

TARVER, ELIZABETH Elizabeth Maddox Tarver, age 88, of Waco passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at a local nursing home. Services will be 3:30PM Monday, August 6th at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 3:00-5:00PM Sunday, August 5th at the funeral home garden room. Elizabeth was born April 4, 1913 in Covington, TN to Henry Albert and Josephine Yount Maddox. She graduated from high school in Memphis, TN and married Wilson Byrd Tarver in Pleasant Hill, MS in 1936. Mrs. Tarver moved to Waco in 1941, when her husband became manager of the downtown S.H. Kress store. In 1947 together, they opened Tarver’s store on North 25th St. Both worked together for the next 24 years as they opened and operated Tarver’s-Tot-To-Teen, Tarver’s Westview and Nannette Fashions until selling the last store in 1971. Elizabeth continued to work in retail clothing after her husband died in 1978. Elizabeth was a long time active member of First United Methodist Church of Waco and participated in Eastern Star and sponsored youth baseball teams with her husband. She enjoyed living at Stilwell Retirement Residence for the past eight years until moving to Crestview Manor recently. She will be missed by her many friends and family for her good humor, genuine personal interest in people and courage during her lifetime. Three infant sons, Charles Michael, Gerald Wayne and Stephan Clyde Tarver and her husband, Wilson, preceded Elizabeth in death. She is survived by: Son: Wilson B., Jr. and wife, Linda Guess Tarver of San Antonio Grandsons: Michael Alan of Norwalk, CT Brian Clay of San Antonio Wilson Brent and wife, Annette And their children: Robertson Byrd and Annsley Kay Tarver of Houston Memorials may be made to Stilwell Retirement Residence or First United Methodist Church of Waco.
