Elva Amelia Cano

October 1, 1966 — August 15, 2024

Our loving Mother Elva Amelia Cano passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, August 15, 2024 after a brave battle with cancer. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most. She was the heart of our family, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance.


Services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, August 22, 2024, at St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church with Father Jose Juan officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 pm-7:00 pm, Wednesday, August 21, 2024 with rosary following at 7:00 PM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.


Elva was born October 1, 1966, in Chihuahua, Mexico to Leonardo Cano and Saturnina Amelia Muñoz. After developing a strong work ethic in Mexico at a young age, Elva made the brave decision to move to the United States to offer a better opportunity for her and her children making Waco, TX her home. Elva was employed at AAFES Distribution Center for 23 years, where she accomplished many achievements that allowed her to travel the world, including a six-month assignment stationed in Germany that she was very proud of. Elva enjoyed traveling, shopping, but most of all cooking and spending time with family. She shared a very special bond with each of her grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her baby brother, Enrique Cano Moreno and her mother, Saturnina Amelia Moreno Muñoz.


She is survived by daughters, Graciela Parra-Gallardo and husband, Sammy, and Maria Fernanda Parra; sons, David Gutierrez and wife Melissa, and Danny Gutierrez and wife Lucia; grandchildren, Edgar Almanza, Miguel Castro Jr, Samuel Gallardo, Leiah Dever, Josiah Gutierrez, and Elia Gutierrez; father, Leonardo Cano; brothers, Leonardo, Rene, John and Ralph; sisters, Mague, Norma, Irma, Rosy, Lorena, Bernie and Elsie; and a long list of family and friends.


Pallbearers are David Gutierrez, Danny Gutierrez, Sammy Gallardo, Edgar Almanza, Miguel Castro Jr. Samuel Gallardo, Leonardo Cano and Alberto Rodriguez


Elva’s family would like to thank the medical team at Baylor Scott & White Hospice; especially Nurse Amber, Nurse Tammy and Aide Jose.
