Elvira Duke August 14, 1924 - May 12, 2009 Elvira Duke of Miami, Florida, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Adult Care Baby Boomers A.L.F after a lengthy illness. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Elvira was born August 14, 1924 in Havana, Cuba. She moved to Chicago in the 1960's and worked for several years at G.D. Searle. She married Harold Duke on August 14, 1970, and moved to Waco in 1971, after Harold's retirement. Elvira loved working on the farm with Harold. She also loved to cook, sew and spend time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughters, Carole Anne Gebel and husband, Jim, of Hayward, California, and Connie June Chester and husband, Gary, of Elmhurst, Illinois; son, Robert Duke and wife, Sandy, of Richland, Michigan; grandchildren, Bryan Chester, Jeffrey Gebel and wife, Michelle, Wendy and husband, Dominic Viola, Suzanne and husband, Jacob Taylor; great grandchildren, Benjamin Taylor and Isaac Viola; her brother, Agustin and wife, Isabel; nephews, Agustin and wife, Denise, Armando and wife, Adela, all of Miami; and niece, Isabel and husband, Stuart Abolsky, also of Miami.
