Erma Ann Highfill, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died Friday afternoon, August 12, 2016 in her Waco home. She was 72 years old. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17 at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug 16 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Erma was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on July 7, 1944 to Arthur and Blanche Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Erma is survived by her husband of 51 years, Rev. Donald Highfill of Waco, and four children: Robert Highfill of Dallas, Rebecca Highfill Bastos and husband, Moyses, of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Bryan Highfill of Waco, and Brenda Highfill of Ft. Worth. She is also survived by her precious granddaughters: Sarah, Deborah and Rachel Bastos. Surviving siblings include Wilma Poel and husband Stan, John Hawkins and wife Kay, and James Hawkins and wife Debbie. Erma’s loving extended family includes numerous nephews, nieces, and close friends. Erma and Donald served with the International Mission Board as missionaries in Brazil for 33 years. Initially her ministry was focused on religious education at the local church. She later served as prayer coordinator for multiple countries within the South American region. Memorials may be made to the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention or to Park Lake Drive Baptist Church.
