Erma Jane Peggy Stinson Boles July 22, 1928 – November 23, 2010 Erma Jane Peggy Stinson Boles, 82, formerly of Waco, Texas, passed away on November 23, 2010, in Durham, North Carolina. Graveside funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 27, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Doug Blackford of Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 26, at Wilkirson–Hatch–Bailey Funeral Home. Erma was born on July 22, 1928, in Waco to Jimmy and Erma Stinson. She graduated from Waco High School in May 1946 and married Charles William Boles of Waco the same year. She was his loving and faithful wife until his death in 1984. Erma was an active member of the Methodist Church, holding membership in Cogdell Memorial Methodist Church in Waco and later in Orange Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She particularly enjoyed participating in bible study and in outreach to members who were unable to attend services. Erma had a wide circle of friends and enjoyed traveling with them in the U.S. and Europe. She also volunteered at Providence Hospital and worked on many of the Class of 1946 Waco High Class Reunions. Her professional career was devoted to life insurance underwriting. From 1946 – 1968 she worked as Home Office Underwriter at American-Amicable Life Insurance Company in Waco. In 1968 she moved to Texas Life Insurance Company where she remained until her retirement in 1988. At the time of her retirement, Erma was Assistant Vice-President, Underwriting, at Texas Life. After moving to Durham North Carolina in 1998, Erma lived at the Croasdaile Village Retirement Community, where she was a highly valued member of the community. While at Croasdaile she was active in the community governance, served as assistant director of the community Gift Shop, and was president of the Exercise Committee. Erma’s contributions to the Croasdaile community were recognized in 2004 when the Homestead Classroom was dedicated to her. Erma was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Esta Gwendolyn Boles Sancar and Aziz Sancar of Chapel Hill North Carolina; her brother, Leslie L. Stinson Sr. of Hewett, Texas; a niece and several nephews, and many friends in Waco and Durham. The family requests that in leu of flowers, memorials be made to either the Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church Sanctuary Fund or to the Croasdaile Village Resident Benevolent Fund.
