Ernest Huber October 12, 1913 - October 24, 2010 Ernest Chris Huber, 97, of Waco passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010, at William R. Courtney State Veterans Home in Temple, Texas. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 29, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Greg Huber officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Ernest was born October 12, 1913, in Troy, Texas, to Christian and Bertha Huber. He attended Cego schools thru the 10th grade and grew up in that farming community. On November 7, 1941, he and Annie Bernice McCain were married. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 10, 1942. He served our country in the 760th Tank Battalion during WWII as a tank mechanic in North Africa and Italy, receiving the Purple Heart during that time. Ernest returned to farming at Rosenthal and then beginning in 1957, he worked for Bud Money as foreman of his chicken farm in Little River until 1966. They moved to Waco, and he worked for Central Texas Iron Works as maintenance mechanic until he retired. He loved fishing, gardening, puzzles, baseball games, Gaither music and John Wayne movies. He had a strong faith in God and country and was a friend to everyone he met. Ernest was a member of Chalk Bluff Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Annie; four brothers, John, Otto, Willie and Albert; and one sister, Elsie. He is survived by his two daughters, Anita Frost and husband, Robert, Waco; and Mary Ann Sanderson and husband, Ken, Lubbock, TX; three sons, Gregory Huber and wife, Nancy, Monahans, TX; Billy Huber and wife, Joy, Keller, TX, and Alan Huber and wife, Sharon, Waco; brother, Paul Huber, Paris, TX; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are his nephews, Tom Huber, Earl Huber, Carroll Huber, Ralph Huber, Melvin Huber, Ray Huber, Albert Porter and John McCain. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Blevins Cemetery Assn., 1113 FM 1239 Eddy, TX 76524 or the charity of your choice.
