Etoile Schoggins Turner May 26, 1914 – November 11, 2006 Etoile Schoggins Turner, 92, formerly of Waco, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2006 in Fort Worth, Texas. Services will be held at 11:15 A.M. Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey with the Rev. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, prior to the service. A luncheon will be held in the garden room at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey following the committal service. Born in Alexander City, Alabama to Evelyn and Henry Schoggins, Etoile was one of six children. The Schoggins family later moved to Texas and became Bellmead residents. Etoile married Calvin Turner of Franklin on August 23, 1932. They were residents of Waco where their only child was born; Wanda Darlene Turner Pease. Mr. Turner’s career with the Southern Pacific Railroad eventually settled the family in Houston. Etoile attended the University of Houston and received a Bachelor of Science Education in 1959. After 31 years of service, Mr. Turner retired from the railroad in 1977 and returned to Waco. A long standing member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waco, Etoile was active in community service. She was a proud volunteer for the American Red Cross working on blood drives throughout Central Texas. During the 1990’s she helped facilitate bingo with “the boys” at the VA. She worked part time at Wal-Mart as a demonstrator —up until her 90th birthday. To her family, Etoile Turner was known for her hand-knitted slippers each Christmas and her passion for food—“Are You Hungry?” She liked to paint and enjoyed arts and crafts. Preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, the family wants to extend their deepest appreciation to all the friends and neighbors who helped Etoile sustain an independent life for twenty years following her husband’s death. Survivors include granddaughter, Stacia Darlene Seegar and husband Mark Wallace Seegar of Arlington; grandson, Gregory Tim Pease and Great-Grand Daughters; Katherine Diana Pease and Julia Christine Pease of Denton.
