Steve Ramsdell, Senior Pastor, and Suzanne Smith, Providence Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Gene was born March 18, 1917, in Waco to Ira Alonzo and Ida Rebecca Huddleston. He attended Waco public schools, graduating from Waco High in 1934. He met and married his wonderful wife, Ruby Eugenia Holze, at St. John's Methodist Church on December 24, 1938. Born to their union were four children, three sons and a daughter. Gene grew up in the Methodist church and was a teacher of adult Sunday school classes. He served on the church boards and was a member of the choir along with Ruby. Together with Dr. Charles Shellenberger and Wayne Worthen, he helped organize a men's prayer meeting that met at 6:30 a.m. each Wednesday attracting a large number of men for 23 years. For 20 years he led Bible study groups in three Waco nursing homes. Gene served as a supervisor in the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 37 years. His retirement gave him time to volunteer for 10 years in the Cath Lab at Providence Health Center where he made many wonderful friends. He was active in the men's Bible study Fellowship class from its beginning. His love of music allowed him to play violin in the original Waco Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of Fidelis Lodge #1127 and of the Waco Scottish Rite. He loved the Lord and served Him in whatever capacity he could, looking forward to life in Heaven.
