Eula Merle Smith

February 11, 1912 — December 24, 2007

Eula Merle Smith went to her Heavenly home on Monday, December 24, 2007 at home surrounded by her family. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 28 at Woodbury Cemetery in Hill County with Rev. Jim Gray officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Merle was born February 11, 1912 in Gonzalez County, Texas. She moved to Waco as a child and attended Waco schools. She married Dee Smith on December 15, 1927 and they owned and operated Dee Smith’s Beauty and Barber Shop for over 27 years. Merle was a faithful member of the Aggie Blanton Sunday School Class at First Baptist of Woodway for many years. After retiring, Merle enjoyed many years of serving others and attending water aerobics at the Waco Family Y where she made many lasting friendships. She is re-united in Heaven with her husband, Dee; infant daughter, Merle Dean Smith; son, Jimmy Dee Smith and daughter, Laquita Rue Bone. She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Gottlieb and husband, Fred of Waco; Merlene Reinertsen of LaGrange; and Darlene Dooley of Robinson; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and special friend, Shotsie Cook. The family would like to recognize and give special thanks to Providence Hospice for their special care and attention during our mother’s last days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Merle’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army.
