Evalie Lewis December 22, 1918 – November 15, 2005 Evalie Rushing Lewis, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Providence Hospital. Graveside services will be at 1:30 Friday, November 18th at Oakwood Cemetery with David Shuttlesworth officiating. Mrs. Lewis will be in state until 11:00 AM on Friday morning at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mrs. Lewis was born December 22, 1918 to Oby and Maggie Rushing in Lott, Texas. She graduated from Lott High School and received a BA degree from Texas Women’s University. After graduation, she taught school in Rogers, Lott and Waco. She married William Clint Lewis in 1941 and after World War II they lived in Waco and Austin. They were members of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church where he was a deacon and she taught in several of the Sunday school departments. They helped establish the 10th St. Mission Center and the Meals on Wheels ministry while at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Oby R. Rushing. She is survived by sister-in-law, Mrs. Oby R. Ann Rushing; nephew, Bob Rushing; niece, Virginia Hoffman and husband, Dalton and a group of very special friends.
