Evelyn Handelman Levy

Evelyn Levy Evelyn Handelman Levy, 89, died May 28, 2004. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 31 at Temple Rodef Sholom Cemetery with Rabbis Mordecai Podet and Seth Stander officiating. Mrs. Levy was born Oct. 21, 1914, in Marlin to Stella and Frank Handelman. After graduating from Marlin High School, she attended and graduated from the University of Texas. She married Elehugh Levy and had two sons, Frank Levy and Stanley Levy. They were happily married for 63 years. Mrs. Levy was active in many civic endeavors including serving as chairman of the boards of Caritas, YWCA, United Way Allocation Committee, and Temple Rodef Sholom Sisterhood. While her husband served in WWII, she ran the family business, B&L Lumber Co., and maintained a home for her two sons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elehugh Levy; son, Stanley Levy; and brothers, Ben and Melvin Handelman. Survivors include children, Frank and Eleanor Levy; grandchildren, Jeff and Shelly Lavy, Stan and Melanie Lavy, and Scott Levy and fianceé, Wendy London; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kenneth Levy, Drew and Morgan Levy, all of Houston; special family friend, Bill McKinney of Dallas; cousin, Maurice Kroll of Marlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wants to express special thank to her devoted caregivers, Darlene Snell, Ann Smith, Esther Erwin, Cynthia Jamison, and Kathy Moore. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Rodef Sholom, Caritas, or Providence Hospice. A Minyan service will be held Monday evening at the home of Eleanor and Frank Levy at 3120 Wooded Acres.
