Evelyn R. Kerr December 3, 1907 – January 2, 2006 Evelyn R. Kerr, 98, passed away January 2, 2006. Services will be held Thursday, January 5 at 11:30 am at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. in Waco. A graveside service will be held in Runge Cemetery in Runge, Texas. Visitation will be from 4–6 pm, Wednesday at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey. Evelyn was born December 3, 1907 in Ft. Worth to Thomas Isaac and Ida May Marshall Ryan. She was raised in Runge and graduated from Runge High School in 1925. She married James K. Kerr August 24, 1931 in Runge, and he died in 1976. She graduated from Southwest Texas University in 1931. She also attended Baylor University and the University of Texas. She taught elementary school in Woodsboro, Chaote, Runge, Garwood and retired from Robinson Elementary School in 1971. She maintained contact with many of her students through the years. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and belonged to St. John’s Methodist which is now Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Kerr worked with Intermediate Youth at St. John’s and was a loyal member of the Friendship Class. She also worked with Meals on Wheels for many years. She is survived by a son, John Kerr and his wife, Margie Buckler Kerr of Kenilworth, IL; two grandchildren, William Ryan Kerr of Portland, OR and Carolyn Armstrong and husband, Ben of Wilmette, IL; two great grandchildren, Henry Ryan Armstrong and William Crisler Armstrong of Wilmette, IL; and two devoted caregivers, Martha Portillo and Josie Ramirez. The honorary pallbearers are Frank Anderson, Nick Barsa, John Byrum, Aubrey Conner, Charlie Dickenson, Curtis Holze, James Hollingsworth, Doug Marsh, Robert Portillo and Billy Walker. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to her beloved church, Central United Methodist Church of Waco.
