Everett M. “Mac” Bates passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held 2:30 p.m., Thursday, April 22, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Leslie King officiating. Everett was born June 28, 1933, in Dalhart, Texas, to Joseph and Jessie Bates. Everett was a graduate of Dalhart High School. He was owner of Mac Bates Insurance Agency in Dalhart prior to his retirement. He enjoyed his family, all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a tremendous love for life, by making people laugh and enjoying others company. Mac was President of the XIT Rodeo and Reunion Board in 1979. He loved rodeo, horses, farming, country music, church, golf, men’s breakfast, and good food!! He was preceded in death by his parents; He is survived by his wife, Virginia Bates; daughter, Ginny Brown and husband, Kenny; granddaughters, Shani Atkinson and husband, Jack, and Holly Radke and husband, Kyle; great grandchildren, Wes Atkinson, Corbin Radke, and Laramie Atkinson; sister, Beth Detwiler; niece, Cynthia Goatley; and numerous cousins.
