Fan was born in Hillsboro, Texas to George and Sadie Schwartz. She spent much of her childhood in Malone, Texas before moving to Waco at age 12. She graduated from Waco High School and went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau. Shortly after graduating, she met her husband, Simon Florsheim. They were married soon after and spent 56 wonderful years together. They lived happily in Waco where they raised their two loving sons, Joel, and Yogi. Happy times were spent on family vacations, and later, summers in Ja Jolla, California.
Fan served as PTA president for four years and was an active member at Temple Rodef Sholom. She was an active volunteer for many years with Meals on Wheels, the March of Dimes, and the United Way. Her most cherished role in life was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She never met a stranger. She loved spending time with her friends young and old at Ridgewood Country Club. Whether she was playing bridge or having dinner with her “Thursday night group”, she was always on the go. She also loved to play the part of hostess. No dinner party was too big or small. She was always happiest when entertaining others.
Nothing gave Fan as much joy as raising her two sons. She was the proudest of moms. Even in her later years, she loved to hold court at her son Yogi’s restaurant, telling everyone, “I’m the mother!” After raising two sons, Fan was thrilled when she was blessed with four granddaughters. This was when she became known as Sugar. Her granddaughters cherish their summers, holidays, and special memories they share with her. Sugar was lucky enough to know her six great-grandchildren. She was an active part of their lives. She loved keeping up with their interests and achievements. She instilled in them what unconditional love means, as she did for the rest of her whole family. Her family will always remember Sugar as wise, witty, caring, and having a heart of gold.
Fan is survived by her son Joel, and his wife Ricki, of Waco, son Yogi, and his wife Leslie, of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Robyn Reagan, and husband Fran, Haley Byrne, and husband Sean, Stacy Ettinger, and husband Scott, and Erin McIntosh, and husband Ryan, all of Dallas; and her great-grandchildren, Colin and Harper McIntosh, Jack and Ben Ettinger, and Conley and Carson Byrne.
