Fern was born December 3, 1902 on the farm outside of Troy, Texas and was the fifth child of Quince W. and Hettie Greene Thompson. She graduated from Troy High School and attended Baylor College in Belton, Texas for one year before marrying Robin Tannenbaum of Laredo, Texas on June 17, 1928. Like her mother before her, Fern’s hands were always busy whether it was gardening, cooking or sewing. Fern was an avid gardener who dazzled her neighbors with her beautiful roses and amaryllis’. A fabulous cook and hostess, her Mexican food and desserts always brought a crowd to the table. A wonderful seamstress, she made many of her daughter’s outfits from play clothes to ball gowns and wedding dresses. Like her father and grandfather before her, Fern was always interested in the events and people around her. An avid reader and family historian, she was constantly striving to learn new things and try new things. Fern was always active in church activities as a member of the First Baptist Church of Laredo where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Director for the Girls Auxiliary and for 16 years, as the church secretary. She also served as Worthy Matron of Laredo Chapter #86 Order of the Eastern Star, Mother Advisor of the Order of the Rainbow, President of the Women’s Missionary Union of First Baptist Church and President of the Tuesday Music and Literature Club. Always looking to put others before herself, she treasured her God, her family, her friends and her community. After living nearly 60 years in Laredo, Fern and Robin moved to Hewitt in 1987 to be closer to their family who lived in Central Texas. She and Robin were both active members of the First Baptist Church of Hewitt. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Robin and her daughter, Leah Mauck.
