Floreine Huggins

Floreine “Flu Flu” Johnson Huggins, 94, of Waco went to be with her Lord, Wednesday, December 12, 2007. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 14, in the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, with Rev. Greg Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Floreine was born May 22, 1913, in Porum, Oklahoma, the only child of Forrest M. and Fannie Sue Johnson. She attended public schools in Waco as the family moved to Texas when she was young. She attended Baylor University for two years and on March 8, 1934, she married James W. Huggins, who was a key player in the starting of the Heart of Texas Federal Credit Union. Floreine served on the church secretarial staff at Seventh and James Baptist Church from 1950-1970, and then as church secretary at Calvary Baptist church, 1972-1983. While serving on the staff of each church, she was an active member and Sunday School teacher. At the time of her passing, she called Top Hand Cowboy Church, Crawford, Texas, her church home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a great grandson, Phillip Moore. She is survived by daughters, Betty Moore and husband, Charles, of Waco; Barbara June Huggins of Waco; and son, James Huggins, Jr. and wife, Sheryl, of Woodway; grandchildren, Greg Moore and his wife, Karen; Cory Moore; Michelle Rachels and her husband, Thomas; James Jamie Huggins and his wife, Christy; Lyndi Ann Huggins; great grandchildren, Jonathan Moore, Stephen Moore, and Xander Gabriel Huggins; Ian Preston Huggins; step-granddaughter Tanya Renee Dickey, and four step-great-grandchildren; and her best friend of 80 years, Dora Kate Howell. Pallbearers are Tom Purdy, Mike Chaney, and grandsons, Greg Moore, Cory Moore, Jamie Huggins and Thomas Rachels. The family would like to thank Hillcrest Hospice and Judy Richard for their generous, caring assistance during Flu Flu’s last days.
